How It All Started

Natomas Black Parents United emerged in 2020 as an urgent response to the inequities our children were facing. In 2019, a staggering 72% of Black students were reading below grade level, 83% were struggling in math, and countless parents and caregivers felt their voices were being ignored. Disparities in suspension and expulsion rates revealed a system failing to honor and nurture the potential of Black students.

In solidarity and determination, we bring solutions to the District's Leadership. We have joined forces with community organizations, like the Black Parallel School Board, Freedom School, and local Black Student Unions to champion the excellence of Black students in the Natomas Unified School District. Our primary focus is the deeply entrenched systemic problems of teaching our scholars to be proficient readers.
